Step-by-Step Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

If oil, food, or drink is spilled on your floor, wipe it immediately with a damp cloth and mild soapy water. Acting quickly helps prevent discolouration and staining, keeping your boards looking their best.

For daily cleaning, sweep with a microfibre pad such as the Bona Microfibre Dusting Pad You can also use a vacuum with a timber floor attachment. Check vacuum heads regularly to ensure they are in good condition and will not mark your floor.

For regular mopping, we recommend the Bona Wood Floor Spray Mop Kit, Avoid using water-filled buckets, steam mops, or chemical-based cleaning products, as these can strip protective coatings. Do not apply water directly to your floors as excess moisture can cause lifting, delamination and grain exposure.

For a deeper clean to remove stubborn dirt, use Bona Wood Floor Deep Cleaner once a year only. Follow the instructions carefully to protect the coating of your floors. If you are unsure, our team is happy to talk you through the process.

To rejuvenate mild scuffs or scratches, use Bona Wood Floor Refresher (which contains 15% polyurethane water-based lacquer). Always use the correct Bona Microfibre Cleaning Pad to avoid streaks. Bona Refresher should only be applied once a year. Applying it more frequently or in multiple coats can create uneven finishes or a hazy appearance. If in doubt, please contact us before application so we can provide guidance.

If your floors begin to look worn or dull, we recommend engaging a professional sanding and polishing service. They can cut back and re-coat the surface with your chosen finish such as UV Oil or UV Lacquer. Timely maintenance will help you avoid the need for a full re-sand.
